Topic of the Week Nov. 12

Movies entertain us, they make us think, they make us cry, they even make us laugh. What movies are on your top 10 list? Why those films? What is it about them that makes them unforgettable? Was it the storyline that captivated you or a particular actor in the film? What movie(s) are you most looking forward to being released?

Below are some of my favorite movies, though they are in no particular order. I guess I should go ahead and state that horror movies are my favorite. I love them. They keep me entertained better than other genres. I will try not to list many of them, though. I also have this strange ability to see a movie once or twice and then be able to quote the majority of it. It gets on peoples nerves, and sometimes my own, but I am sure it will come in handy one day.

1) Freedom Writers – I love this movie. I think Hilary Swank is such a powerful actress, who always takes on huge roles and plays them out to perfection. The movie itself is powerful and shows how one person can make a difference in the lives of youths. I think I cry almost every time I see it.

2) Stepmom – This is one of the movie I remember seeing with my whole family and we were all crying, minus my Dad. This is just one of those movies that touches the heart of the audience, and makes you feel like you are part of the struggles that the family is going through. Extremely well written and produces, with one hell of a cast.

3) The Grinch –
I watch this movie every year around Christmas. Jim Carry did an awesome job. People often told me that I act just like him, and I think thats a complement. This is another feel good movie. I like the way it is written, with all the rhymes and clever puns.

4) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (one with Jessica Biel)-
I remember seeing this movie and being horrified and captivated and entertained the whole way through. It kept me on the edge of my seat, and it was different than any other horror movie I had ever seen. I am obsessed with horror movies, and this is one of my absolute favorites. Its macabre and twisted and thats what I like about good horror movies. They blow your mind, and entertain to the fullest extent.

5) Halloween H2O ~ And the new Rob Zombie Halloween movies –
I don’t know if I should admit this, but Michael Myers is my worst nightmare. He terrifies me, but I find the movies like a train wreck, it is so hard to not watch. I remember when I saw Halloween H2O, and my brother, sister, and I all slept on my parents floor for two weeks, before returning to out room. Now I just find the movies entertaining. They take a different spin on the classic Halloween movies, and add more violence from Michael. Just looking at the Halloween mask scares me. I share this terror with my mother and sister. We are all extremely scared of Michael Myers.

6) Madagascar ~
These movies are hilarious. I love the one liners and the creativity that goes into making these movies. They may be animated, but they are hilarious.

7) ANY PIXAR MOVIE ~ Pixar dominated the animated movie genre and any of their movies are excellent. (A Bug’s Life, Wall -E, Brave, Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, Monsters Inc. ) All of those movies are excellent.

8) Underworld (All of them)
I love these movies, because I love vampire movies, and these movies add in lycans and a lot of ass kicking. I also think Kate Beckinsale is stunning and does a great job as Saleen, the Deathdealer.

9) Pitch Perfect ~ this may not be one of my favorite movies, but it kept me smiling the whole time. I really love musicals and vocal talents and this movie was packed full of them.

10) Bridesmaids – Kristen Wiig is outlandishly funny and this movie was hilarious. To my, this movie was better than the Hangover. Melissa McCarthy is hilarious and played her part amazingly. I laughed obnoxiously loud in this movie and I continue to do so, every time I see it.

Upcoming movies that I am excited about:
Identity Thief ~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcvIpsf-ENY
The next Resident Evil, because I love those movies.
Anna Karenina ~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPGLRO3fZnQ&feature=related
Silver Lining
Breaking Dawn Part 2
Evil Dead 2013 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8zDzUv7CSk
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2013
and many more
I also really want to see Arbitrage

  1. I also really liked Avatar and Head Over Heels

  2. I think Bridesmaids is one of those movies that will become a classic. I put it in my top 10 as well because I know no matter what kind of mood i’m in if I watch this movie I will instantly feel better. It’s just a good hearted funny movie.

  3. I can’t believe I forgot about Brides Maids! That has to be my favorite. And with the holidays coming I love the Grinch! By the way- Freedom Writers was just on TV the other day: will always be a good movie.

  4. I can’t believe that I forgot to mention The Grinch! Jim Carey cracks me up on everything he does. Madagascar is also one of my favorite movies. I love to laugh. I’m not in to scary movies at all.

  6. I honestly hate horror movies. I really don’t like to be scared, and I don’t understand the whole torture thing. But I do really love Madagascar movies!! They’re so good! My boyfriend was shocked when I wanted to rent the most recent one last week.

  7. I love the Grinch and I believe it’s because Jim Carey played the part. He was so great in this film. I also liked the over-exaggerated makeup, hair, and costumes in this movie because it gave the film a cartoon-ish feel. Also, Bridesmaids was the funniest chick-flick ever, better than the Hangover anyday!

  9. I just recently saw Pitch Perfect…it is absolutely hilarious. Rebel Wilson is so funny and I can just look at her and laugh. The plot line was really cute and light-hearted, so it was easy to follow and like. I also LOVE Bridesmaids. Although that movie hasn’t been out very long, I have probably seen it a billion times. It is so funny and I can’t get enough of it.
